Miami-Dade County Hispanic Affairs Advisory Board to host inaugural Hispanic Advocate of the Year Reception

MIAMI – The Miami-Dade Hispanic Affairs Advisory Board (HAAB) will celebrate its inaugural Hispanic Advocate of the Year Reception on Friday, Dec. 1, at 6:30 p.m. in the Florida International University Patricia and Phillip Frost Art Museum, 10975 SW 17th St. The event will celebrate and highlight advocates and leaders in Miami-Dade County who work tirelessly for the betterment of Hispanic and minority issues in our community. This event will also mark the launch of the HAAB’s scholarship program, which is aimed at granting support to minority college students. Nominees for the Hispanic Advocate of the Year include:

· Jeanette Acevedo-Isenberg, Head of School, Downtown Doral Charter Elementary School
· Nelson F. Hincapie, President and CEO, Voices for Children Foundation, Inc.
· Ivon Mesa, Bureau Chief, Miami-Dade County Community Action and Human Services Department
· Hortensia Nuñez, PHD, Faculty and Vice President Faculty Senate, Florida National University
· Kristy Nuñez, Division Chief, Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office, and Co-Founder, Urban Promise Miami
· Nora Sandigo, Founder and Executive Director, Nora Sandigo Children’s Foundation
· Isisdoro Quezada, Manager, University of Miami, and Board Chair, Farmworker Association of Florida, Inc.

HAAB also will be presenting awards to advocates selected by various County commissioners for their generous work within their commission district. The District Community Advocates include:
