Commissioner Esteban “Steve” Bovo to hold virtual press conference on April 1, announcing official Census Day

MIAMI-DADE – Miami-Dade County Commissioner Esteban “Steve” Bovo will host a virtual press conference at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 1, 2020 via Zoom Conference. April 1 is the official day when residents will include everyone in their home and respond to the U.S. Census Bureau.

Participation is crucial to ensure Miami-Dade County receives its fair share of federal funding to support local services and infrastructure as well as proper representation in Congress.

An undercount of the population will have severe implications, especially for residents who depend on federal programs and services. In 2010, Miami-Dade County had a net undercount of 18,000 among young Latino children.

“It's imperative we continue to stress the importance of the 2020 Census during this unprecedented time,” Commissioner Bovo said. “The novel coronavirus is a perfect example of why we need to make sure our community is properly funded. Now, more than ever, we need to make sure Miami-Dade is counted.”
