Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue and the State Fire Marshal’s Office Host Christmas Tree Safety Demo

(Miami-Dade County, FL) --

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue (MDFR) along with Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue and the State Fire Marshal’s Office will be hosting a Christmas tree safety demonstration to showcase the fire hazards related to Christmas trees and safety tips on how to prevent home fires. The demonstration will take place Thursday, Dec. 10, 2015 at MDFR Training Center.

According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), nearly 40 percent of Christmas tree home fires occur in January due to dried out trees left in homes after the holidays. Although these fires aren’t common, when they do occur, they’re more likely to be serious. On average, one of every 40 reported home structure Christmas tree fires resulted in a death, as compared to an average of one death per 142 total reported home structure fires.
