Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Medical Director selected as one of "America’s Top Cardiologists" for the second time

Dr. Donald G. Rosenberg Receives Same Honor Twice

The Consumers' Research Council of America has named Donald G. Rosenberg, M.D., FACC, as one of "America's Top Cardiologists" for 2010.  He continues to enjoy this same recognition previously given to him by the Council in 2008.  Dr. Rosenberg is the Medical Director of Miami-Dade Fire Rescue (MDFR), where he directs all aspects of the department's medical protocols. He has served in this capacity for the past 14 years.  He also is a professor of clinical medicine for the University of Miami's Miller School of Medicine, where he has been an instructor for 39 years.

"Dr. Rosenberg is a well-respected physician who truly deserves this honor," said Fire Chief Herminio Lorenzo.  "He has elevated our department's assessment and treatment protocols in the area of cardiology, and this translates to the best possible care for our residents."

Due to Dr. Rosenberg's leadership of EMS personnel, MDFR has documented the lowest mortality rate in the U.S. related to the emergency response of acute heart attacks (less than 1%).  This achievement has occurred in a cooperative effort spearheaded by Dr. Rosenberg with all six EMS systems in Greater Miami (Miami Beach, Key Biscayne, Coral Gables, Hialeah, City of Miami and Miami-Dade County).

Dr. Rosenberg previously was selected by his peers as one of the Best Doctors in America and was the recipient of the Medical Director of the Year for the State of Florida. The Florida Medical Association has presented him with the Award for Outstanding Leadership in the State of Florida in the Emergency Provision of Medical Services by a Physician or Layperson.  He also has received a Special Achievement Award (2003) from the Florida Chapter of the American College of Cardiology.

Dr. Rosenberg has authored a number of books, articles and abstracts in the field of cardiology.  He also has made numerous professional presentations at various high-profile conferences.  He is affiliated with several professional organizations such as the American Medical Association, Florida Medical Association and Dade County Medical Association.
