Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Responds to Explosion in Sunny Isles


(MIAMI, October 2, 2015) – Miami-Dade Fire Rescue (MDFR) is on scene of a gas explosion at Chateau Miami Beach residences at 17475 Collins Avenue, located in Sunny Isles Beach.  The explosion was first reported at 11:57 am and is believed to be from a gas leak.  

Currently, there are 78 units on scene assisting in the rescue effort. There were a total of six injuries, 1 trauma alert patient was transported via MDFR Air Rescue to Ryder Trauma Center, 2 patients were trauma alerted via ground transport to Aventura Hospital Trauma Center, and one other person treated on scene and released. Two other MDFR firefighters also sustained minor injuries.  The crews on scene were successful in locating and extricating two people trapped in the elevator with no sustained injuries.  An active gas leak has been contained, the building has been vacated.
