More About Fire Rescue

We have 71 fire-rescue stations within unincorporated Miami-Dade County and serve 29 municipalities. We have response units dedicated to the airport and seaport, air transport service, ocean rescue, fire and rescue operations, marine, hazardous materials (HazMat), urban search and rescue (US&R), technical rescue, and venom response.

We are accredited by the Commission on Fire Accreditation International (CFAI) and Emergency Management Accreditation Program (EMAP). We are one of only 285 agencies in the world to achieve International Accreditation status by CFAI. We are the largest accredited fire rescue department in the Southeast and the second largest in the nation. MDFR’s Office of Emergency Management (OEM) is one of only 107 jurisdictions nationwide and 19 in the state of Florida to achieve EMAP.

We are rated a Class 2/2X Public Protection Classification (PPC) Department by the Insurance Services Office, Inc. (ISO). Our 2/2X rating places us in an elite group of 1,874 fire departments out of 42,083 nationally with a Class 1 or 2 rating.
