Monkeypox

Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava and the Miami-Dade Office of Emergency Management are actively monitoring the spread of monkeypox in our community, and working directly with the Florida Department of Health to expand access to the monkeypox vaccine in Miami-Dade.

Vaccination

Miami-Dade County, together with Nomi Health, is offering Jynneos Monkeypox vaccine appointment slots for high-risk populations. To become fully immunized you must be vaccinated with two doses, the second dose 28 days after receiving the first. Learn more about the County's vaccine efforts.

Currently, the vaccine is only provided to certain populations that are at high risk for infection. These groups include:

  • Laboratory personnel and health care personnel at high risk for Monkeypox
  • Close contact with Monkeypox cases
  • Immunocompromised MSM (men who have sex with men) with HIV (<200 CD4 white blood cells per ml³)
  • Other MSM with a recent history of a sexually transmissible diseases (STD)
  • Other MSM with HIV who had potential exposure
  • Other individuals engaging in high-risk sexual activity
  • Other immunocompromised individuals who may be at greater risk

If you are currently experiencing symptoms of monkeypox, Nomi Health will not vaccinate you. We encourage you to get tested first to ensure that you are not already infected. Symptoms of monkeypox include:

  • Fever
  • Headache
  • Muscle aches and backache
  • Swollen lymph nodes
  • Chills
  • A rash that can look like pimples or blisters that appears on the face, inside the mouth, and on other parts of the body like the hands, feet, chest, genital and anal area

Please only schedule your appointment for your first dose if you are in one of the high-risk categories. Once you receive the first dose, our clinic staff will provide you with a follow-up appointment for the second dose.
