Miami-Dade County Monitoring Impacts Following Seismic Event Near Cuba
A seismic event originating near Cuba was felt in portions of South Florida this afternoon. Out of an abundance of caution, standard evacuation protocols were implemented, and assessments are underway at affected Miami-Dade County facilities, including the Stephen P. Clark Government Center.
According to the National Weather Service, there is no tsunami threat to South Florida related to the magnitude 6.4 earthquake reported around 2:00 p.m. EDT off the western coast of Cuba.
Protective Actions:
- Be prepared for possible aftershocks.
- If shaking occurs, Drop, Cover, and Hold On until it stops.
- Stay away from damaged buildings, structures, or downed utility lines.
- Check your home or workplace for damage and report hazards to the appropriate authorities.
- Monitor official sources for updates and emergency information.
Miami-Dade County will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as warranted.
