Miami-Dade County is the gateway to the America’s with over 14.6 million visitors staying overnight in Miami-Dade County in 2014 alone. Those visitors spent another record $23.5 billion while they were here and most importantly, tourism supported over 130,000 jobs in our county. Ninety-six percent of travelers came through Miami. The County is also the cruise capital of the world with 4.8 million multi-day passengers. Additionally, Miami-Dade County oversees accessible transportation services. This includes the Metrobus fleet that runs approximately 28.9 million miles through most areas of Miami-Dade County; the electrically-powered, elevated, 25-mile rapid transit Metrorail system; the 4.4-mile elevated Metromover; and the paratransit service (Special Transportation Service) that meets the needs of the disabled. But even with all these investments to improve our transit and transportation system, Miami-Dade County needs additional mobility options.
