Fit2Lead Youth Development and Internship Program
Foster positive growth among our community's youth by hiring a Fit2Lead youth development intern to work at your business. Hire a Fit2Lead youth development intern and join us in helping to foster positive youth trajectories that can reduce juvenile delinquency and arrests, improve attendance and increase graduation rates.
Who is this program for?
This program is for businesses who want give back to our community in a way that benefits our local youth. to At-risk teens who have been referred and approved to be part of the Fit2Lead Youth Development and Internship Program will be matched with businesses like yours for part-time employment. The program will provide participants with career development skills while promoting academic support, social-emotional learning, and skill-building in job coaching, the arts, sports and college readiness.
How does this program work?
The Parks Foundation of Miami-Dade received a five-year, $1.8M grant from the Children's Trust to enhance Miami-Dade Parks Fit2Lead Youth Development and Internship program. Interns will be hired and paid through the Parks Foundation. They will be matched based on expressed interests to a business. The grant requires that the interns work no more than 10 hours per week and may not exceed 265 hours during the calendar year.
Why should my business participate?
Why not? As a local business you know how important giving back to the community you serve in is. Through the Fit2Lead Youth Development and Internship Program you will be able to give a young adult in your neighborhood a chance to earn a paycheck and learn valuable life skills. And, it doesn't cost you a thing! Businesses selected to participate in the program would receive a small fee (approximately $785 per intern) to cover costs related to the management and supervision of interns.
Fit2Lead Youth Enrichment and Sports Program (YES)
Academic support is led by a Miami-Dade County Public Schools certified teacher and is tailored to your child's instructional needs. Sports and leadership sessions will focus on sport fundamentals, team building, and sportsmanship through participating in many sports including volleyball, soccer, swimming, and track and field. Enrichment sessions will include games and activities that focus on problem solving, communication and socials skills.
Special workshops will include music, dance, and photography classes as well as Saturday field trips to historical, environmental, and cultural destinations within the County.
Transportation from your child's school may be available.
This program will be held August 21, 2017 - June 8, 2018, 4 –7 p.m., Monday–Friday for children ages 12-14. YES is a free program.

Fit2Lead Park Internship Program (PIP) by referral only
Participants will receive on-site practical work experience and enrichment classes focusing on life skills. Topics include: budgeting, resume writing, communication, stress management, health, goal setting, and making positive choices. Interns will be provided with close mentorship from Parks staff. The program runs Monday-Friday afterschool and some Saturdays (hours will vary with rotation assignment).

- Summer Camp
This program provides an entry level part-time paid position for youth ages 15-17.
