Active Shooter


(Miami-Dade County, FL) -- 

The Miami-Dade Police Department, General Investigations Unit for the Town of Miami Lakes, is investigating an active shooter incident.  Shortly after 9:00 a.m., officers responded to reports if shots fired inside of an apartment.  As the officers approached, the subject began shooting thru the front door.  The officers immediately secured the area for public safety. 

The Special Response Team (SRT) and Hostage Negotiators were notified and responded.  The Hostage Negotiators communicated with the subject and were able to convince him to surrender without incident.  The subject was subsequently taken into custody and charged  accordingly.

Investigators recovered a high-powered rifle, a shot gun, and several rounds of ammunition inside of the apartment.

Charges:  Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer, Shooting a Deadly Missile, and Unlawful Discharge of a firearm
