Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer

(Miami-Dade County, FL) --

Officers from the Miami-Dade Police Department's Midwest District this morning arrested 15- year old Victor Calderon and charged him with Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer, Fleeing and Eluding and Grand Theft Auto.

Investigators say officers responding to a 911 call early this morning about a possible vehicle burglary in Southwest Miami-Dade, observed a vehicle attempting to flee the scene.

Officers conducted a traffic stop and in his effort to flee, the driver hit a tree.  He then reversed, first hitting the police car and then, as he drove off, hitting one of the police officers.  An ensuing chase ended in the area of S.W. 147 Avenue and S.W. 8 Street when two tires blew out, disabling the fleeing vehicle.  Calderon was then taken into custody.

Both he and the officer were treated on the scene for minor injuries.
