(Miami-Dade County, FL) -- The Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD), Agricultural and Environmental Crimes Section, Illegal Dumping and Environmental Crimes Unit, arrested an individual for illegal dumping and animal cruelty.
Investigators had received information that the property located at 15600 SW 172 Avenue, which is zoned for agricultural purposes, was being used to accept solid waste as a resource recovery and management facility. While observing open-source aerial photography from previous years, detectives learned the property had been overgrown with piles of unknown debris, and from 2017 through the present, the piles of debris had fluctuated in size and had been moved throughout the premises. Detectives obtained a search warrant and while executing the warrant, they not only discovered the property was being used to illegally accept solid waste, but also found numerous dogs kept in cages and in unsanitary conditions. With the assistance of Miami-Dade Animal Services Department (MDASD), 30 dogs were recovered and will be evaluated by MDASD veterinarians for various health concerns.
The subject was arrested and charged accordingly.
