The Miami-Dade Police Department, Traffic Homicide Unit, is investigating a traffic fatality that resulted in one teen killed and another critically injured.
According to investigators, Hammocks District officers received a call about a suspicious vehicle in the area. Shortly thereafter, a vehicle matching the description was observed travelling eastbound on SW 56 Street at a high rate of speed. Officers attempted to approach the vehicle in order to further investigate, at which time the driver lost control of the vehicle, colliding into a concrete pillar.
The 15-year-old driver of the vehicle was pronounced dead on the scene by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue. A 14-year-old female passenger was transported to HCA Florida Kendall Trauma Center and is currently listed in critical condition.
The investigation continues.
