The Miami-Dade Police Department, Traffic Homicide Bureau, is investigating a fatal crash that resulted in the death of two year-old Alexia Leaks. Investigators say that a 2007 GMC Acadia driven by Anette Walker, was stopped in the driveway of 10970 SW 222 Terrace as the infant and her sister were being dropped off. Aubree Leaks, the child’s sister, walked her inside the residence and returned to the vehicle. Both Ms. Leaks and Ms. Walker (the driver) lost sight of the child and assumed she had remained inside the residence. As Ms. Walker started to drive away she heard a thump and immediately stopped the vehicle. She then saw the child laying in the roadway. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue responded and airlifted Alexia to Nicklaus Children’s Hospital where she died. The driver of the vehicle was also transported to a nearby hospital. Investigators do not suspect that alcohol and/or drugs played a role in the accident. The investigation continues.
