Miami-Dade County's Special Transportation Services gets a virtual upgrade
As of this week, Special Transportation Service (STS) users will have more options available via an interactive website. The Department of Transportation and Public Works (DTPW) has modernized the way riders can request a ride and track their trips.
STS provides transit services for residents with disabilities who cannot ride the Metrobus, Metrorail, or Metromover. Previously, passengers could only book a trip by calling the reservations offices and confirm or cancel online.
Now, STS riders can successfully manage all aspects of their trips online at STSconnect.miamidade.gov, or through the Miami-Dade Transit Tracker app. Log onto the app, select the STS Connect icon, and users will be redirected to the mobile-friendly site. The improved application is able to detect what type of screen the user is on -- either a desktop or mobile device -- and will adjust accordingly.
“We are always looking for ways to make Miami-Dade County more accessible for our residents and make transit more convenient,” said Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez. “The upgrades to STS Connect and our Miami-Dade Transit Tracker app provide our residents with all the tools they need to get where they want to go.”
Updates to this program include: The ability to book a ride; track a trip; confirm or cancel; view your upcoming schedule (up to seven days in advance); update travel plans; and include comments or recommendations. The system also is able to notify the user whether a request has been booked or scheduled successfully.
“We are committed to laying the groundwork for the future, and using all forms of available technology to continue advancing public transportation,” said DTPW Director, Alice N. Bravo, P.E. “Making it easier for our STS riders to get around is just another way we’re streamlining our services.”
