Driving safety tips when encountering down traffic signals
The Department of Transportation and Public Works is working around the clock to restore all of the 2,776 traffic signals in Miami-Dade County.
Currently, 89 percent of Miami-Dade's traffic signals are operating. The remaining 293 traffic signals will be in service once electrical power is restored to the areas where the traffic signals are located.
While some traffic signals remain inoperative, drivers should keep in mind the following safety tips to prevent accidents:
- Treat intersections where there are inoperative traffic signals as four-way stops.
- At night, drive slowly in case motorists have to make a sudden stop.
- Be courteous and patient with other drivers.
For information about road closures due to inoperative traffic lights or debris, residents can call Florida 511. Motorists also can download the Waze app to help them navigate through local streets.
