The Department of Transportation and Public Works to host a dedication ceremony for the University Pedestrian Overpass Bridge
On Friday, December 1, 2017, the Department of Transportation and Public Works will have a dedication ceremony to celebrate the official opening of the pedestrian overpass bridge at the University Metrorail station.
The overpass bridge provides a safe crossing for pedestrians and cyclists over the heavily traveled U.S. 1, between the University Metrorail station and Mariposa Court in Coral Gables. Elevators and stairs provide access to the overpass that spans almost 125 feet over U.S. 1.
"I have supported this project ever since I was County Commissioner for District 7. The pedestrian bridge will provide a safe crossing over busy U.S. 1, and easy access for those who want to reach our Metrorail station, or go from our station to the businesses across the street," said Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez.
Funding for the project of approximately $6 million comes from the County’s transportation surtax funds, the Florida Department of Transportation and the Federal Transit Administration.
