Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez reacts to news that Tri-County area named an Amazon HQ2 finalist

MIAMI (January 18, 2018)

I was thrilled to learn this morning that our Tri-County proposal was selected as one of the 20 finalists out of 238 who proposed for Amazon’s HQ2. I have always known that our world-class community would be an ideal location for the e-commerce giant’s second home. Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties are home collectively to 6 million residents.

Miami-Dade alone is home to more than a dozen major public and private universities and colleges, and seven of the US News and World Report 100 best high schools. We have the home-grown talent and every day our excellent schools and universities continue to produce and attract more talent. I am certain that Amazon would continue to grow and prosper in South Florida.

I thank the Miami-Dade Beacon Council and their C.E.O., Michael Finney, for being the lead agency to work with our neighbors in Broward and Palm Beach to craft a solid proposal.
