Registration is now open for free summer arts classes offered by the African Heritage Cultural Arts Center

Eight-week virtual youth arts program offered June 15 through Aug 7

The African Heritage Cultural Arts Center (AHCAC) is offering free virtual classes through its Summer Arts Conservatory for youth ages 5–16. The program features visual and performing arts classes, June 15 through August 7, 2020. Registration for classes can be completed at www.ahcacmiami.org. Registration deadline is June 15, 2020. Space is limited.

The virtual Summer Arts Conservatory is an eight-week arts intensive program that provides students a strong foundation in the visual and performing arts. This years’ program features a variety of classes, workshops, and masterclasses led by AHCAC instructors and alumni, all in a virtual environment. The Center will offer classes such as Ballet, Musical Theater, Animation, Sewing, Voice, and Piano. Classes will be held Monday through Thursday, 10:00 a.m. to 2:20 p.m. The program culminates with a virtual student art exhibition and performances. The class schedule can be found here.

Known as a premier arts training institution, the African Heritage Cultural Arts Center is nationally-recognized for developing hundreds of outstanding artists in all arts disciplines over the past 45 years through its arts academies. The Center is also recognized as the artistic home of alumnus Tarell Alvin McCraney, co-creator of the Academy Award-winning movie “Moonlight. Other distinguished and notable alumni include Robert Battle, Artistic Director of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater; Keenan D. Washington and Fergie L. Philippe, U.S. Tour cast members of Hamilton the musical; Bianca Brewton, professional dancer (Beyoncé and Bruno Mars); Shareef Clayton, Grammy-nominated jazz trumpeter (Arturo Sandoval and Stevie Wonder); and tap dancer Marshall Davis, Jr., associate choreographer of the Tony-nominated play Shuffle Along.
