June 21: Child Tax Credit Awareness Day

On Monday, June 21st, our nation celebrates Child Tax Credit Awareness Day to ensure parents know about the American Rescue Plan’s historic expansion of the Child Tax Credit and how it will benefit their families.

President Biden’s American Rescue Plan increased the amount of the 2021 Child Tax Credit to support families with children. The Biden administration will grant a historic tax relief of $3,000 to $3,600 per child, for nearly all low-income families.

“This is a lifeline out of poverty for millions of children and their families, still struggling due to the pandemic. Support for working parents is vital to help them weather this storm,” said Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava. “When our children are healthy and cared for, we build the foundation for a brighter future for all of us.”

The Child Tax Credit payments will be provided monthly beginning in July. Eligible families who filed their taxes will receive the payments without having to take any action. Families who are not required to file taxes due to very low incomes will receive assistance to sign up for Child Tax Credit benefits using a new, simple sign-up tool at ChildTaxCredit.gov.
