Miami-Dade County and Venezuelan Embassy partner to help Venezuelans apply for TPS

MIAMI ( October 25, 2021 )

Today, Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava announced a new partnership between Miami-Dade County’s Office of New Americans (ONA) and the Venezuelan Embassy in Miami-Dade, to offer information and support to Venezuelans eligible for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) recently granted by the Biden administration.

“Miami-Dade is home to one of the largest Venezuelan communities in the country and we are proud to support them in this critical process,” said Mayor Levine Cava. “Immigrants including our Venezuelan community play a vital role in our culture and our economy and we all benefit when they have greater opportunity to belong and contribute. TPS offers a sense of needed stability for families striving for their chance at the American dream.”

Approximately 50,000 Venezuelans in South Florida will be eligible to benefit from the TPS expansion – following years of advocacy for greater protection for those who fled oppression and a collapsed government that turned on its people. The partnership with the Embassy will support Venezuelans by streamlining the process to collect documents needed to submit a TPS application.

“We thank the Mayor of Miami-Dade, Daniella Levine Cava, and her team for this valuable support to continue advancing the protection and humanitarian aid to Venezuelans in the United States,” said Ambassador Carlos Vecchio, named as the Venezuelan Ambassador by Juan Guaidó. “This gesture of solidarity from Miami-Dade County is of great help, and we hope it will be replicated by other local governments.”

Eligible applicants can attend a virtual information session with Mayor Levine Cava and Ambassador Carlos Vecchio on Monday, October 25 at 8:00 p.m. on the Embassy’s Facebook page.
