Miami-Dade County Community Action and Human Services Department to host the Commit To End Teen Dating Violence Dialogue: Know Your Worth (Virtual)

MIAMI ( February 19, 2021 )

Miami-Dade County Community Action and Human Services Department (CAHSD) has partnered with the Miami-Dade County Juvenile Services Department (JSD) to bring awareness about teen dating violence and available resources in our community. The free one hour virtual dialogue will be held on Wednesday, February 24, 2021 from 4PM-5PM.

In commemoration of Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month, CAHSD has partnered with JSD to raise teen dating violence awareness among youth. Tools to prevent teen dating violence in our community and promote the development of healthy relationships will be highlighted in the discussion.

“Teen Dating Violence impacts the entire community, not just our teens,” said Annika S. Holder, CAHSD Interim Director.  Studies show that adolescents in abusive relationships often have unhealthy relationships as adults.  “Engaging, educating and empowering youth to identify and respond to dating violence today lays the foundation for safe and healthy relationships tomorrow,” added Holder.

“If left untreated, the trauma associated with teen dating violence can produce profound psychological scars that prevent social development and threaten future relationships,” said Cathy Burgos, LCSW, JSD Director. Ms. Burgos added, “A comprehensive, pro-active strategy to raise awareness of teen dating violence and minimize its impact is essential to the long-term health and wellbeing of our community.”
