Election Orientation Meetings
The Miami-Dade County Community Action and Human Services Department (CAHSD), in partnership with the Department of Public Housing and Community Development (PHCD) conducts an election of members to Miami-Dade County’s Community Advisory Committees every three (3) years. A series of Election Orientation meetings will be conducted in 2018-2019 to discuss the election process. Residents interested in voting in the election or running for candidacy will be encouraged to attend those meetings.
Community Advisory Committees: The CACs represent Miami-Dade County’s Neighborhood Revitalization Strategy Areas (NRSAs) and Target Areas. CAC members serve in an advisory capacity and provide recommendations to the Miami-Dade County Board of County Commissioners (BCC) on the development and implementation of neighborhood plans and projects. Members and Officers of the Community Advisory Committee will be elected for three (3) year terms.
Election Orientation Meetings: The purpose of the meetings is to explain the voting registration process, candidate qualifications and the election process for the Community Advisory Committees.
Candidacy and Voter Registration: Registration for all candidates and voters will begin at the Election Orientation Public Meeting and will last for a period of five (5) working days. Registration must be done in person. No write-in candidates will be accepted. A schedule of office hours for voter and candidate registration will be provided during the orientation. Registration will not reopen on the day of election.
Voter and Candidate Eligibility Requirements: Qualified voters and candidates must be at least 18 years of age and must be either a resident, property owner, business owner and/or employed in the Target Area/NRSA. A current photo identification issued by a government agency will be required as proof of identity, as well as one of the following:
1) A current utility bill with the resident’s name at an street address within the Target Area/NRSA;
2) Deeds, mortgages or homestead exemption documentation with the resident’s name and an street address within the Target Area/NRSA; or
3) Official correspondence from a governmental agency indicating the resident’s name and an street address within the Target Area/NRSA.
- Property Owners:
Property records consisting of deeds, mortgages, homestead exemption documentation and/or mortgage payment documentation with the owners name and address showing ownership and proof that the property is located within the Target Area/NRSA.
- Business Owners:
Corporate records and/or evidence that the business is located within the Target Area/NRSA.
- Employment in Target Area/NRSA:
Letter or documentation from the employer stating that the voter’s work location is within the boundaries of the Target Area/NRSA.
Election Date: The date and location of the election will be will be scheduled within a period of no earlier than ten (10) and no later than twenty (20) working days after the Election Orientation Public Meeting.
