(Miami-Dade County, FL) -- Miami-Dade Transit will host an informational meeting for general contractors and subcontractors regarding the Orange Line - Phase 1: Miami Intermodal Center (MIC)/Earlington Heights (EHT) Connector Metrorail Extension on Friday, January 25, 2008 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce, Ray Goode/Ryder Conference Center, Radisson Hotel, 1601 Biscayne Boulevard, Miami, Florida 33132.
The purpose of the meeting is to present the upcoming construction contract procurement for the MIC/EHT Connector, which will run from the existing Earlington Heights Metrorail station to the Miami Intermodal Center (MIC) adjacent to Miami International Airport.
The proposed construction bid will be advertised the first week of March, 2008. The estimated construction cost is approximately $290 million. Construction is scheduled to begin by late 2008 and is estimated to be completed by late 2011. The project will consist of 2.4 miles of elevated dual-track guideway, a Metrorail station at the MIC and a bus terminal plaza.
The meeting will include a brief description of the alignment, station, systems engineering, guideway structure and track work. Information will also be provided on right-of-way status, project schedule, insurance requirements, and Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) goals.
The MIC/EHT Connector is the first phase of the three-phase Orange Line Metrorail Extension project. Phase 2: North Corridor Metrorail Extension calls for a 9.5-mile extension to the Broward County line along NW 27th Avenue, and Phase 3: East-West Corridor Metrorail Extension proposes a 10- to 13-mile extension from the MIC Airport Metrorail station to Florida International University.
