More than a half a million people are within one of Miami-Dade County's three Hurricane Evacuation Zones, Miami-Dade County, in partnership with Florida International University has created the Storm Surge Simulator which combines historical data and modern day technology to illustrate what storm surge could mean to you and your home. Hurricane season officially began on June 1, so the time to get prepared is now -- and the County can help! The 2011 Hurricane Guide is now available. The information in this guide is designed to:- Help a loved one with special needs pre-register for Miami-Dade's Emergency Evacuation Assistance Program.
- Sign-up your pet to gain access to one of Miami-Dade Pet Friendly Evacuation Centers.
- Properly prune your trees to minimize tree and property damage.
- Get a Kit, Make a Plan, Be Informed.
