Site Area Description

The Miami Convention Center site is just two blocks north of the Lincoln Road pedestrian mall, located along 17th Street near Convention Center Drive, and is served by bus routes L, G, H, C, S, M, W, K, and the Flagler Max. Development includes a mix of retail stores, government/civic facilities, office buildings, small hotels, and moderate-density residences. Much of the retail development in the area is at the street/sidewalk edge. Some of the civic buildings have moderate setbacks, and sidewalks are provided throughout the area. The area south of 17th Street includes numerous zones that exceed 14 households per acre. Employment density for the zone along the north side of 17th Street and east of Washington Avenue exceeds 25 employees per acre. Two large surface parking lots on the south side of 17th Street may present redevelopment opportunities. The adjacent area includes a number of ongoing development/redevelopment projects for hotels and commercial properties.
