"It's a great opportunity for area seniors to have fun, mingle and experience some of the park's new recreational programs designed to help seniors become more active and fit," said Commissioner Monestime.
Named after Gwendolyn Cherry, the first African-American woman elected to the Florida Legislature, the 38.5-acre Gwen Cherry Park has a recreational pool, a splash island; tennis and basketball courts; fields for softball, baseball and football; a track; a concession building; stadium bleachers; and sports lighting throughout the facilities. The park is also the home of the National Football League (NFL) Youth Educational Town (Y.E.T.) Center, where children can register for sports programs and after-school activities.
