Miami-Dade Transit is sponsoring a series of design workshops that will give local community members a voice in early planning efforts for the new stations on the Metrorail North Corridor extension project. Part of the People’s Transportation Plan (PTP), the North Corridor project involves development of 9.5 miles of rail line and a proposed seven stations.
The upcoming design workshops will be focused on the communities one-half mile around the proposed Metrorail stations at the Ali-Baba Avenue and NW 119th Street station areas. As part of a week-long process, local residents, businesses, and the public are invited to attend presentations of transit-oriented development, community design and emerging land use concepts for the station areas, and will be given the opportunity to comment on various design alternatives. The workshops will be led by Miami-Dade Transit along with designers, engineers, permitting authorities, and other key project experts.
Using Transit-Oriented Development to Shape a Better Future for Local Neighborhoods
Community input will be important to realizing Miami-Dade Transit’s objectives for developing areas around stations in a way that ensures long-term benefits to local neighborhoods. In urban areas nationwide, transit-oriented development is not only providing better transportation alternatives to people who depend on public transit but also proving an effective means to improve the quality of life and stimulate economic growth through commercial and residential development.
Voicing opinions and concerns during the planning phase of development will give people a chance to play a meaningful role in shaping the future of their communities to reflect their needs and values.
