Miami-Dade Transit Opens MIA Metrorail Station

Metrorail Orange Line service to Miami International Airport begins July 28, 2012

Tomorrow, Saturday, July 28, 2012, Miami-Dade Transit (MDT) will officially open its 23rd Metrorail station – the new Miami International Airport (MIA) Station.

Metrorail’s new Orange Line service, which will take passengers to the new MIA Station, will begin providing regular service to MIA after a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10 a.m.

The new MIA Station is the centerpiece of the People’s Transportation Plan (PTP).  In 2002, Miami-Dade County voters approved a half-penny sales surtax, overseen by the Citizens’ Independent Transportation Trust (CITT), to fund the People’s Transportation Plan, www.miamidade.gov/citt/history.asp.  The PTP is a comprehensive program of both roadway and transit improvements.  Construction of Metrorail’s extension and station were funded with $404.7 million from the PTP surtax, and $101.3 million from the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT).

PARKING DIRECTIONS FOR MEDIA ONLY: Standard vehicles can park at the MIA Rental Car Center (RCC), on the 4th Floor, Customer Service Level.  The RCC is located at 3900 NW 25 Street, adjacent to the MDT’s new MIA Station.  If your television station is planning on sending a live television truck, please call Greg Chin, Miami-Dade Aviation Department Communications Director, at 786-251-0588 to make arrangements.
