This process includes reviews from the Department of Regulatory and Economic Resources Environmental Resource Management Division (DERM) and/or the Miami-Dade County Water and Sewer Department (WASD). Other reviews or permits may be required based on the location and nature of the business.
Submit for Review and Approval an Unincorporated Certificate of Use
Use this feature to apply for a Certificate of Use in unincorporated Miami-Dade County.
Prior to opening any business in unincorporated Miami-Dade County, a CU must be obtained. A Certificate of Use, often referred to as a CU, assures that the business is allowed in the zoning district where it is located. It also verifies that the structure was built for the proposed type of business, i.e., restaurant/convenience store.
Starting a business without obtaining a CU may result in a fine and the issuance of a ticket to both the business owner as well as the property owner. A CU is required when an industrial or commercial building is erected, altered, or enlarged, or an existing building goes through a change of occupancy, name, or type of business.
