Miller, President and CEO, Miami-Dade Beacon Council, appeared before the Committee to present a PowerPoint presentation regarding the Miami-Dade Beacon Council’s economic update, which outlined the following: - Brief overview of the Beacon Council; - The Geography of Power: Global Economic Systems and Their Command Cities; - Forces Reshaping the Global Economy; - Cities are the New Platforms of Power; - Miami- Global Hub with Massive Scale; - Miami’s Opportunity – Become a Top 5 Global City; - How To Get There; - The Beacon’s Efforts; - Grow the Economy: Key New Companies and Expansions; - Grow the Economy: Project Pipeline; - The Beacon Council Foundation; - What You Can Do; and - Grow the Economy and Champion Miami. Chairwoman Cohen Higgins inquired whether Miami was already a top-five global city. Mr. Miller stated that Miami was a growing global city but had not yet reached that tier, noting that it ranked as the seventh-largest metropolitan area in the United States and 13th in terms of economic performance. | ||||||
