TITLE RESOLUTION DIRECTING THE COUNTY MAYOR OR COUNTY MAYOR�S DESIGNEE TO USE LEGALLY AVAILABLE FUNDING SOURCES, INCLUDING POSSIBLE DONATIONS FROM THE PRIVATE SECTOR, TO DESIGN AND INSTALL A PERMANENT MARKER OR MONUMENT ON THE GROUNDS OF THE RYDER TRAUMA CENTER AT JACKSON MEMORIAL HOSPITAL TO COMMEMORATE AND HONOR THE UNITED STATES ARMY TRAUMA SURGEONS WHO HAVE TRAINED AT THE RYDER TRAUMA CENTER, AND TO PREPARE A REPORT BODY WHEREAS, the Jackson Health System, operated by the Public Health Trust (the �Trust�), is Miami-Dade County�s most vital health care resource; and WHEREAS, the Jackson Health System includes Jackson Memorial Hospital, Jackson South Medical Center, and Jackson North Medical Center; and WHEREAS, it also includes the Ryder Trauma Center, one of the world�s busiest and most renowned trauma centers, with locations at Jackson Memorial Hospital and Jackson South Medical Center; and WHEREAS, since its founding, the Ryder Trauma Center has developed a reputation for clinical excellence, providing top-notch, comprehensive care to adults and children in Miami-Dade County; and WHEREAS, the medical staff at Ryder Trauma Center routinely provide emergency resuscitation, surgical intervention, intensive care, and rehabilitation to treat Miami-Dade County�s most critical and complex medical cases; and WHEREAS, the Ryder Trauma Center is also a leader in research and education, developing new techniques for treating and preventing traumatic injury and drawing clinicians from around the world to study how Ryder Trauma Center�s caregivers provide advanced care to their patients; and WHEREAS, since 2001, the United States Army has selected Ryder as a location for its national Army Trauma Training Center, to enhance the training of its Forward Surgical Teams� trauma surgeons and medical personnel before being deployed for combat; and WHEREAS, this Board recognizes the bravery, sacrifice and heroism of the United States Army trauma surgeons who risk their lives to treat life-threatening injuries out in the field; and WHEREAS, a marker or monument should be created and erected at a suitable location on the grounds of the Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital to commemorate and honor the United States Army trauma surgeons who have trained at the Ryder Trauma Center; and WHEREAS, any legally available funding sources should be used to accomplish this directive, including possible donations from the private sector, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FLORIDA, that this Board: Section 1. Directs the County Mayor or County Mayor�s designee to use legally available funding sources, including possible donations from the private sector, to install a permanent marker or monument at a suitable location on the grounds of the Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital to commemorate and honor the United States Army trauma surgeons who have trained at Ryder Trauma Center. Section 2. Directs the County Mayor or County Mayor�s designee to prepare a report detailing the proposed design and location of the marker or monument prior to procuring and installing such marker or monument, and to provide the report to this Board within 60 days of the effective date of this resolution. The required report shall be placed on an agenda of the Board pursuant to Ordinance No. 14-65. |
