TITLE
RESOLUTION DECLARING JUNE 24, 2022, AND EACH JUNE 24 THEREAFTER, AS CHAMPLAIN TOWERS SOUTH-SURFSIDE REMEMBRANCE DAY

BODY

WHEREAS, on June 24, 2021, Champlain Towers South, a 12-story beachfront residential condominium in Surfside, Florida, experienced a major structural collapse; and
WHEREAS, the structural collapse of the building tragically resulted in many fatalities among the building�s residents and visitors; and
WHEREAS, of the 98 individuals whose lives were lost in this tragedy, many were residents of Miami-Dade County and contributed to the fabric of our community; and
WHEREAS, families of the victims will gather on June 24, 2022 for a memorial event to honor and pay respects to those who are no longer with us; and
WHEREAS, this Board believes it is important to honor and remember the families and victims of the Champlain Towers South collapse in Surfside, and recognize their many contributions to our community,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FLORIDA, that this Board hereby declares June 24, 2022, and the day of June 24 each year thereafter, as Champlain Towers South-Surfside Remembrance Day in Miami-Dade County.
