E-Newsletter

Dear Residents, Thank you for subscribing to our District 11 e-Newsletter!

School is back in session and by now students have settled into their routine. Some children walk or take the bus to school. I ask that as you drive to and from work or to your designation, you stay alert and watch for children walking in school zones or waiting for the bus to make sure they're safe. I would also ask that you take a moment when you see your child's teacher to thank them for their dedication, self-less commitment and the compassion they show these children every day.

I also hope that everyone had a safe Labor Day Weekend. As you may know, the Board of County Commissioners are back in session and I look forward to ensuring the needs of our community are being addressed.

As always, I look forward to hearing from you, the residents of District 11 and community at large. Your valuable input and feedback helps me better represent you through the governmental process. Together, we can continue to work on improving and enhancing our community and our quality of life.

Should you have any comments, ideas, or concerns, visit the District 11 website for my office contact information.

Thank you,

Joe A. Martinez, Commissioner

Hurricane Dorian

As Hurricane Dorian threatened South Florida my staff and I worked tirelessly making sure that the residents of Miami-Dade County were able to keep their property safe from flooding as was predicted. I was able to help residents prepare for Hurricane Dorian by providing 200,000 lbs. of sand, donated by Adonel Concrete, which filled over 2,500 bags. My first priority is the needs of the residents and our community during difficult times.

Sand bag donations

As our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims of Hurricane Dorian, I know we can count on the residents of Miami-Dade County to rise to the occasion and help our neighbors in the Bahamas in their time of need. We remember Hurricane Irma and Hurricane Michael as being the worst storms in recent memory for Florida and know how important it is to help each other through the darkest of moments. Please join me in donating much needed items. Please do not bring clothing or perishables – only the items on the donation list.

9/11 We Will Never Forget

September 11, 2001 is officially called “Patriot Day,” a national day of service and remembrance that commemorates the catastrophic events of 9/11. One of the worst days in America’s history saw some of the bravest acts in Americans’ history. We will always honor the heroes of 9/11 and should pledge that we will never forget their sacrifice.

September 11 remembrance

With almost no time to decide these heroes, first responders and civilians, with no thought for their own safety were willing to sacrifice themselves to save our nation.
