Share your water story by entering WASD's Seventh Annual Drinking Water Week Photo Contest

MIAMI ( March 22, 2022 )

South Florida residents are surrounded by water, but have you ever considered how essential it is to your daily life? Water impacts everything from the practical, like drinking, showering, brushing your teeth, to the fun, like swimming, boating, kayaking.

Tell your story of how water touches your life and community by participating in the Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department’s (WASD) Seventh Annual Drinking Water Week Photo Contest. Professional or amateur shutterbugs can grab their camera or smartphone and snap a shot to celebrate the importance of nature’s best thirst quencher.

Photos do not need to be professional quality, and all ages are encouraged to enter. Submissions can be made starting today through April 30. Requests must be sent to WASD through the department’s social media accounts  Facebook, Twitter and Instagram — by posting the photo with the hashtag #miamidadewater.

“Author Henrik Ibsen coined the phrase, ‘A picture is worth a thousand words,’ and I can’t wait to see how these many pictures tell the story of WASD’s delicious drinking water and how it plays a supporting role in all of our lives,” said WASD Director Roy Coley.

The winning photo will be featured in WASD’s 2023 Drinking Water Week advertisements, as well as other departmental marketing campaigns. The winning photographer will also receive a water conservation kit, including a rain barrel and a water-efficient showerhead. Second and third place winners will also receive water conservation kits and be featured in departmental marketing campaigns.

Judging criteria includes the following categories:

•Relevance to the Theme – Does the photo demonstrate how water is essential?
•Originality – Is the photo original, innovative and creative?
•Quality of Presentation – Is the photo presented nicely and neatly? Was the photo process thought out? Observe every detail.
•Story Telling Impact – Does the photo tell a story?

The winner will be announced on Wednesday, May 4, during Drinking Water Week.

It is the priority of the Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department to provide safe, reliable service to its customers. For additional information about Department services and programs, visit the department’s website.
