TITLE
RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE NOMINATION OF MIAMI-DADE FIRE CHIEF ROBERT DAVID PAULISON AS DIRECTOR OF THE UNITED STATES FIRE ADMINISTRATION

BODY
WHEREAS, on September 20, 2001 President Bush nominated Miami-Dade Fire Chief Robert David Paulison to be the Director of the United States Fire Administration at the Federal Emergency Management Agency; and
WHEREAS, his appointment is subject to confirmation by the Unites States Senate; and
WHEREAS, Chief Paulison joined the Fire Department in 1965 at age 19 as a firefighter and rose through the ranks, being appointed Director of the Miami-Dade Fire and Rescue Service District in 1992; and
WHEREAS, he directed the Fire Department's laudable efforts during Hurricane Andrew in 1992 and the ValueJet 592 crash in the Everglades in 1996; and
WHEREAS, under his administration, the Fire Department has earned national and international recognition for its Urban Search and Rescue Team, and for its expertise in trauma techniques dealing with hazardous materials and other specialties; and
WHEREAS, he was named Florida Fire Chief of the Year in 1992; and
WHEREAS, among other many accomplishments, he was appointed to the Civil Integration Response Panel of the Defense Science Board serving on that Board's Biological Terrorism Panel in 2000, and he was elected President of the International Association of Fire Chiefs representing 12, 000 fire chiefs in 27 countries,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FLORIDA, that the County Commission enthusiastically supports his nomination to be Director of the United States Fire Administration.
