RESOLUTION DIRECTING COUNTY MANAGER TO DEVELOP AND BROADCAST PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENTS ON MIAMI-DADE COUNTY'S GOVERNMENT ACCESS CHANNEL, MIAMI-DADE TV, REGARDING UNSOLVED VIOLENT CRIMES AND UNSOLVED CRIMINAL DRUG CASES

WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners (the "Board") is concerned about increased violent criminal activity in the County and the negative impact that crime has on our communities; and
WHEREAS, County residents are threatened and intimidated by the level of crime and violence in their neighborhoods, including but not limited to, homicides, drug offenses, and gang activity and are seeking solutions in an effort to maintain safer communities; and
WHEREAS, public service announcements on Miami-Dade County's Government Access Channel, Miami-Dade TV, regarding unsolved violent crimes, unsolved drug cases and outstanding arrest warrants will increase public awareness and cooperation with law enforcement agencies, facilitate closing unsolved cases, aid in apprehending wanted criminals, and potentially decrease the incidences of violence and criminal drug activity in the County,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The County Manager is instructed to develop public service announcements to be broadcasted on Miami-Dade County's Government Access Channel, Miami-Dade TV, which shall include appropriate information about unsolved violent crimes, criminal drug offenses and related outstanding arrest warrants.

Section 2. The County's Communications and Police Departments shall work cooperatively to determine which cases or individuals will be broadcasted on Miami-Dade TV and the frequency of the broadcasts.
Section 3. Within 30 days of the effective date of this Resolution, or at the next regularly scheduled Health and Public Safety Committee, the County Manager shall report the status of the public service announcements and provide a schedule for broadcasting.
