REPORT:	Assistant County Attorney Eric Rodriguez advised scrivener’s errors existed in this proposed resolution and they should be corrected by changing throughout the item “voter’s” to “voter,” “school’s” to “school,” “Principal” to “principal,” and “programs” to “program.” Hearing no other questions or comments, the Commission proceeded to vote on this proposed resolution as amended to correct the scrivener’s errors.

TITLE
RESOLUTION URGING THE MIAMI-DADE COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD TO ADOPT A BOARD RULE MANDATING A UNIFORM AND EQUITABLE VOTER REGISTRATION DRIVE PROGRAM IN ALL HIGH SCHOOLS AT LEAST ANNUALLY

BODY
WHEREAS, Miami-Dade County Schools conducted a voluntary voter registration drive in the fall of 2007, in an effort to afford students the opportunity to participate in Florida�s first January Presidential Primary; and
WHEREAS, the School Board�s voter registration program is implemented on a system based on school principals� discretion, where each principal may or may not choose to participate in the program; and
WHEREAS, the Miami-Dade Equal Opportunity Board has responsibility to advise the Board of County Commissioners regarding equal opportunity issues in the community; and
WHEREAS, the Miami-Dade County Equal Opportunity Board on April 4, 2008 adopted a resolution recommending that the Board of County Commissioners urge the School Board to adopt a Board Rule mandating a voter registration drive program in all high schools at least annually,
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FLORIDA, that the Board of County Commissioners hereby urges the Miami-Dade County School Board to adopt a Board Rule mandating a uniform and equitable voter registration drive program in all high schools at least annually.
