REPORT: | Commissioner Barreiro offered an amendment to add that the Miami-Dade Public Housing Agency would work with Citizens on Patrol in those municipalities that did not have crime watch/crime prevention programs. He asked that the Citizens on Patrol have the flexibility to work with the proper agencies within those municipalities. Hearing no objection, the Board adopted the foregoing as amended. | ||||||

TITLE RESOLUTION DIRECTING THE MAYOR OR THE MAYOR�S DESIGNEE TO ESTABLISH A CRIME WATCH/CRIME PREVENTION PROGRAM WITHIN EACH PUBLIC HOUSING AND ELDERLY HOUSING DEVELOPMENT OWNED AND OPERATED BY THE COUNTY THROUGH THE MIAMI-DADE PUBLIC HOUSING AGENCY CRIME REDUCTION INITIATIVE PROGRAM BODY WHEREAS, the Miami-Dade Public Housing Agency (�MDPHA�) is the designated County department that administers the public and elderly housing programs on behalf of the County; and WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Board to ensure that the health, safety and right to peaceful enjoyment is provided to all residents of the County�s public and elderly housing developments; and WHEREAS, this policy also includes the prevention and elimination of all types of crime within these developments; and WHEREAS, MDPHA has established the Crime Reduction Initiative Program (�Program�), which is an innovative approach to crime reduction and community empowerment involving a coordinated effort by local law enforcement, social service providers and the Miami-Dade Public Housing Agency; and WHEREAS, the goal of the Program is to reduce crime at MDPHA properties and provide long-term solutions to strengthen positive relationships between residents, management, police, and the community; and WHEREAS, the key to a successful crime prevention program is the inclusion of the residents living in the neighborhood through the establishment of crime watch/crime prevention groups; and WHEREAS, this Board finds that it is in the best interest of the health, safety and welfare of the residents of the County�s public and elderly housing developments to establish crime watch/crime prevention groups in each of these developments, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FLORIDA, that this Board directs the Mayor or the Mayor�s designee to establish crime watch/crime prevention groups in each of the County�s public and elderly housing developments though the MDPHA�s Crime Reduction Initiative Program, and further directs the Mayor or Mayor�s designee to work with Citizens on Patrol in those municipalities that do not have a Crime Watch Program. |
