TITLE RESOLUTION APPROVING THE CITY OF MIAMI�S CO-DESIGNATION OF NW 10TH STREET FROM NW 3RD AVENUE TO NW 4TH AVENUE, MIAMI, FLORIDA AS �WILLIS-RICHARDSON STREET� BODY WHEREAS, Arthy Willis was one of the African-American signers of the Charter incorporating the City of Miami in 1896; and WHEREAS, the Miami City Commission wishes to commemorate Arthy Willis as one of the first prominent African-Americans in the City of Miami; and WHEREAS, his daughter, Arthe Willis-Richardson, along with her husband, opened the first African-American owned funeral home in 1926, making it the oldest such funeral business still in existence; and WHEREAS, on July 22, 2010, the Miami City Commission adopted Resolution R-10-0329 (attached hereto as Exhibit A), which designated NW 10th Street from NW 3rd Avenue to NW 4th Avenue, Miami, Florida, as �Willis-Richardson Street�; and WHEREAS, NW 10th Street from NW 3rd Avenue to NW 4th Avenue is a city street located in the City of Miami; and WHEREAS, the City of Miami would like the County to install signage indicating this co-designation on County street signs and traffic signal mast arms; and WHEREAS, this co-designation is located in County Commission District 3, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FLORIDA, that this Board: Section 1. Approves the City of Miami�s co-designation of NW 10th Street from NW 3rd Avenue to NW 4th Avenue, Miami, Florida as �Willis-Richardson Street�. Section 2. Directs the Clerk of the Board to send certified copies of this Resolution to the City Manager of the City of Miami, the United States Postal Service, the Traffic Signals and Signs Division of the Public Works Department and Land Development Division of the Public Works Department, the Miami-Dade Police Department, and the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Department. |
