REPORT:	Assistant County Attorney Rizo read the foregoing resolution into the record. Commissioner Heyman explained the intent of the foregoing resolution. She noted that the Homestead Baseball Complex needed upgrades and that staff needed to research to determine whether any grants were available. Commissioner Moss noted that he reviewed this issue in the past and the cost to renovate the facility was more than $30 million. He noted the issue should be revisited, and that he supported of the foregoing resolution. The Committee proceeded to vote on the foregoing resolution.

TITLE
RESOLUTION DIRECTING COUNTY MAYOR OR MAYOR�S DESIGNEE TO CONSULT WITH CITY OF HOMESTEAD, AND AFTER SUCH CONSULTATION, PURSUE MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL TEAMS TO PLAY SPRING TRAINING GAMES AT HOMESTEAD BASEBALL COMPLEX

BODY

WHEREAS, currently all Major League Baseball (�MLB�) spring training games are played in Florida and Arizona as a member of the Grapefruit League or the Cactus League, respectively; and
WHEREAS, these exhibition games generate a significant economic impact to the local communities that host such events; and
WHEREAS, the Homestead Baseball Complex was designed and constructed as a MLB spring training center; and
WHEREAS, this Board desires to direct the Mayor or Mayor�s designee, after consultation with the City of Homestead, to pursue major league baseball teams to play their spring training games at the Homestead Baseball Complex,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FLORIDA, that:
Section 1. The foregoing recitals are incorporated in this resolution and are approved.
Section 2. This Board hereby directs the Mayor or Mayor�s designee, after consultation with the City of Homestead, to pursue major league baseball teams to play their spring training games at the Homestead Baseball Complex.
