TITLE RESOLUTION DIRECTING THE MAYOR OR MAYOR�S DESIGNEE TO CONDUCT A STUDY ON THE CREATION OF GREEN ENERGY FARMS IN THE AGRICULTURAL AREAS, INCLUDING FUNDING SOURCES AND TAX EXEMPTIONS TO ENCOURAGE SUCH GREEN ENERGY FARMS BODY WHEREAS, farmers and owners of agricultural property in Miami-Dade County may wish to preserve the agricultural character of their land; and WHEREAS, keeping the agricultural character of current farmland in Miami-Dade County may benefit the entire community by maintaining the farm industry, preserving the character of farming communities, and providing locally grown products to County residents and visitors; and WHEREAS, owners of agricultural property in Miami-Dade County may be better able to preserve the agricultural character of their lands by creating solar panel farms, bio fuel opportunities, or other green energy farms; and WHEREAS, owners of agricultural property who establish such green energy farms may be eligible for existing federal, state, or local assistance or tax exemptions; and WHEREAS, in addition to any existing assistance programs and tax exemptions, the County may want to create new assistance programs to encourage owners of agricultural property to establish green energy farms; and WHEREAS, the County may wish to advocate for the state or federal governments, or for non-profit agencies, to provide new assistance programs or tax exemptions for such green energy farms, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FLORIDA, that the Mayor or Mayor�s designee is hereby directed to conduct a study on the feasibility of creating green energy farms, including but not limited to solar panel farms and bio fuel opportunities, in the agricultural areas of Miami-Dade County. As part of this study, the Mayor or Mayor�s designee shall investigate existing and potential sources of funding or assistance from local, state and federal governments and non-profit organizations, and the Mayor or Mayor�s designee shall also explore existing and potential tax exemptions for owners of agricultural property who establish such green energy farms. The Mayor or Mayor�s designee shall provide a report to the Board of County Commissioners on this study within six months of the effective date of this Resolution. |
