RESOLUTION APPROVING THE CITY OF SWEETWATER CODESIGNATION OF SW 1ST STREET FROM SW 102ND AVENUE TO SW 103RD COURT AS "ARIEL J. ABELAIRAS WAY�

BODY
WHEREAS, on January 9, 2012 the Mayor and Commission of the City of Sweetwater adopted Resolution No. 3611 which designated SW 1st Street from SW 102nd Avenue to SW 103rd Court as �Ariel J. Abelairas Way,� in recognition of his contributions to the City of Sweetwater, a copy of which is attached and incorporated by reference, and
WHEREAS, Ariel J. Abelairas was born in Havana on October 20, 1949 and at the age of 12 moved to the United States; and
WHEREAS, Abelairas graduated from Florida Atlantic University with a Bachelor�s Degree in Business Administration and later became a Certified Public Accountant; and
WHEREAS, he opened his own business in the City of Sweetwater, �Abelairas Insurance Agency,� and became an experienced and successful tax accountant; and
WHEREAS, since 1999, Abelairas had been a Commissioner with the City of Sweetwater; and
WHEREAS, at the time of his death on December 31, 2011, he was the President of the Commission and Vice Mayor of the City; and

WHEREAS, SW 1st Street from SW 102nd Avenue to SW 103rd Court is a city street located in the City of Sweetwater; and
WHEREAS, the City of Sweetwater wants the County to install signage indicating this codesignation on County street signs and traffic signal masts arms; and
WHEREAS, this codesignation is located in County Commission District 12,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FLORIDA, that this Board:
Section 1. Approves the City of Sweetwater codesignation of SW 1st Street from SW�102nd Avenue to SW 103rd Court as �Ariel J. Abelairas Way.�
Section 2. Directs the Clerk of the Board to send certified copies of this Resolution to the Mayor of the City of Sweetwater, the United States Postal Service, the Traffic Signals and Signs Division of the Public Works and Waste Management Department, the Development Services Division of the Department of Regulatory and Economic Resources, the City of Sweetwater Police Department and the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Department.
