Board of County Commissioners 12/19/2017 5A Adopted P
REPORT: County Attorney Abigail Price Williams read the title of the foregoing proposed resolution into the record. Chairman Bovo opened the public hearing and called for persons wishing to speak. Ms. Carmen Olivares, 3386 W. 97th Terrace, Hialeah, appeared before the Board and spoke in favor of Agenda Items 5A and 5A Supplement. She stated she was an actress and had been working for Telemundo since 2003; noted Telemundo was ranked first amongst the Spanish-language networks, in large part because of the talent and hard work of the actors and crew; and indicated the actors and crew were in the process of negotiating a new contract with Telemundo with fair working conditions. She requested the Board urge Telemundo to end the inferior working conditions and reach a fair agreement with the actors and crew before the renaming of NW 117th Place from NW 25th Street to the NW 2200 Block as “Telemundo Way”. Ms. Monica Gil, 2290 W. 8th Ave., Miami, Hialeah, appeared before the Board and spoke in support of Agenda Items 5A and 5A Supplement. She noted she was the Executive Vice President at NBC Universal Telemundo Enterprises and pointed out Miami-Dade County had been home to “Telemundo” for over 30 years. Commissioner Diaz thanked Ms. Olivares and Ms. Gil for taking the time to attend the meeting to make their comments. He expressed his appreciation to “Telemundo” for its work, and said he was happy it was located in his district. Commissioner Diaz emphasized that “Telemundo” had been a wonderful corporate citizen and would treat its employees fairly. There be no other persons wishing to speak, Chairman Bovo closed the public hearing and the Board proceeded to vote on the foregoing proposed resolution, as presented.
