TITLE
RESOLUTION APPROVING THE FLORIDA LEGISLATURE�S CODESIGNATION OF THE HOMESTEAD EXTENSION OF THE FLORIDA TURNPIKE/STATE ROAD 821 BETWEEN MILE MARKER 34 AND MILE MARKER 36 AS ''TROOPER PATRICK AMBROISE MEMORIAL HIGHWAY''

BODY
WHEREAS, during the 2017 legislative session, the Florida Legislature enacted Chapter 2017-193, Laws of Florida (Senate Bill 368), which, in relevant part, codesignated that portion of the Homestead Extension of the Florida Turnpike/State Road 821 between mile marker 34 and mile marker 36 as �Trooper Patrick Ambroise Memorial Highway�; and
WHEREAS, Trooper Patrick Ambroise passed away on May 15, 2010, when his patrol car was struck from behind while he was stopped on the shoulder of the Florida Turnpike; and
WHEREAS, Trooper Ambroise had served with the Florida Highway Patrol for four years when he passed away in 2010; and
WHEREAS, he was a member of the 111th Recruit Class at the Florida Highway Patrol Academy in Tallahassee; and
WHEREAS, he was assigned to Troop K, covering the Miami-Turnpike area; and
WHEREAS, Trooper Ambroise was survived by his wife, Roberta, his two young daughters, his mother, and five siblings; and
WHEREAS, section 334.071, Florida Statutes, provides that the installation of state road designation signs shall be contingent on the applicable county or city commission passing a resolution in support of the particular honorary road designation; and
WHEREAS, before the Florida Department of Transportation will install signs reflecting the �Trooper Patrick Ambroise Memorial Highway� road codesignation, Miami-Dade County is required to pass a resolution in support of this road designation; and
WHEREAS, that portion of the Homestead Extension of the Florida Turnpike/State Road 821 between mile marker 34 and mile marker 36 is a state-maintained road located within MiamiDade County that borders the Town of Medley and the City of Hialeah Gardens; and
WHEREAS, this road codesignation is located within County Commission District 12; and
WHEREAS, in recognition of Trooper Patrick Ambroise�s contributions to Miami and the surrounding community, this Board would like to approve the Florida Legislature�s codesignation of the Homestead Extension of the Florida Turnpike/State Road 821 between mile marker 34 and mile marker 36 as �Trooper Patrick Ambroise Memorial Highway�,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FLORIDA, that this Board:
Section 1. Approves the Florida Legislature�s codesignation of that portion of the Homestead Extension of the Florida Turnpike/State Road 821 between mile marker 34 and mile marker 36 as �Trooper Patrick Ambroise Memorial Highway.�
Section 2. Directs the Clerk of the Board to transmit a certified copy of this resolution to the Mayor and the Town Council of the Town of Medley, the Mayor and City Council of the City of Hialeah Gardens, the United States Postal Service, the Traffic Signals and Signs Division


of the Transportation and Public Works Department, the Development Services Division of the Regulatory and Economic Resources Department, the Miami-Dade County Fire Rescue Department, the Miami-Dade Police Department, the Town of Medley Police Department, and the City of Hialeah Gardens Police Department.
