E-Newsletter

Dear Residents,

Thank you for subscribing to our District 11 e-Newsletter!

As we move forward into the month of March, I will continue to work on your behalf to ensure the needs of our community are being addressed.

In March, we celebrate Women's History Month in our schools, our workplaces, and our communities to recognize the often overlooked achievements of women. In honor of women, let's celebrate their accomplishments globally by celebrating International Women's Day (IWD) on March 8, 2020. We also need to continue to work locally by encouraging women and girls to pursue their dreams and reach their fullest potential. We also spring forward to Daylight Savings Time on March 8th. Don’t forget to change your clocks! And, on March 17th, we celebrate St. Patrick's Day.

As always, I look forward to hearing from you, the residents of District 11, and the community at large. Your valuable input and feedback help me better represent you through the governmental process. Together, we can continue to work on improving and enhancing our community and quality of life.

Should you have any comments, ideas, or concerns, scroll down to the end of this newsletter for my office contact information.

Census 2020

Every 10 years, the U.S. Census Bureau conducts a census to determine the number of people living in the United States. It’s about fair representation. The results of the census are used to reapportion the House of Representatives, determining how many seats each state gets. After each decade’s census, state officials redraw the boundaries of the congressional and state legislative districts in their states to account for populations shifts. The federal government distributes billions of dollars in federal funds, grants and support to states, counties and communities. That money is spent on schools, hospitals, roads, public works and other vital programs. Local governments use the census for public safety, emergency preparedness and other vital programs here in District 11. Businesses use census data to decide where to build factories, offices and stores, which create jobs.

Census

We encourage every resident to participate in the census and we assure you that your privacy is protected. It’s against the law for the Census Bureau to publicly release your responses in any way that could identify you or your household. By law, your responses cannot be used against you and can only be used to produce statistics.

Women's History Month

Every year March is designated Women’s History Month by Presidential proclamation. The month is set aside to honor women’s contributions in American history. The 2020 Women’s History Month theme is “Valiant Women of the Vote.” The theme honors "the brave women who fought to win suffrage rights for women, and for the women who continue to fight for the voting rights of others."
