TITLE RESOLUTION DECLARING NOVEMBER 2022 AND THE MONTH OF NOVEMBER OF EACH YEAR THEREAFTER �MIAMI BOOK MONTH� BODY WHEREAS, the history of public libraries in Miami dates back to the late 19th century; and WHEREAS, the Miami-Dade Public Library System was established in 1971 and has been a staple of the community since then, with 50 physical library locations, a mobile services fleet, home delivery services, and online services available 24 hours per day, seven days per week, serving the nearly 3,000,000 residents of Miami-Dade County with a mission of promoting literacy and learning throughout our community; and WHEREAS, the Miami-Dade community is interested and committed to the literary arts; and WHEREAS, the Miami Book Fair began as a two-day event in November, 1984; and WHEREAS, the Miami Book Fair was founded by�Miami-Dade College�, in cooperation with literary community leaders and the Miami-Dade Public Library System; and WHEREAS, the Miami Book Fair is the nation�s premier literary festival, having grown over the years to an annual eight-day festival in Downtown Miami and online every November featuring more than 500 authors, 200,000 attendees, 200 plus national and international book exhibitors, and a robust schedule of literary, cultural, and educational events, supported by over 1,000 community volunteers; and WHEREAS, the Miami Book Fair Fair�s vision is to engage our community through accessible year-round programs that promote reading and support writers, and a vision of an inclusive, attentive, sustainable community of writers, readers, and collaborators across all disciplines and cultures; and WHEREAS, Miami Dade County is home to a vibrant literary community, including the nationally renowned independent bookseller Books & Books, serving Miami-Dade County residents and visitors for 40 years; and WHEREAS, this Board seeks to recognize the importance of literacy, reading, books, and the institutions and organizations that promote the literary arts throughout the community; and WHEREAS, this Board finds that the month of November is an appropriate month to designate as Miami Book Month, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FLORIDA, that this Board declares November 2022, and the month of November of each year thereafter as �Miami Book Month�. |
