Flooding

Flooding is one of Miami-Dade's most persistent threats, capable of causing extensive property damage and life-threatening conditions in a matter of minutes. Keep manhole covers closed when streets are flooded. Opening manhole covers can alleviate the local flood impact, but it introduces additional water to the sewer system and can cause overflows. To report flooded streets in your neighborhood after a storm, visit 311 online or call 311. If you have broken or leaking pipes, call the Water and Sewer Department at 305-274-9272.

Floodplain Management Program

Due to its low elevation and proximity to major water bodies, Miami-Dade County is uniquely vulnerable to flooding. With a high water table and limited natural drainage, major storms can occasionally overwhelm the landscape and cause water to collect in low-lying areas.
