REPORT:	Assistant County Attorney Alexander Bokor read the foregoing proposed resolution into the record. Chief Fire Officer Al Cruz, President, Metro- Dade International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) Local 1403, expressed support for the foregoing resolution and presented a brief historical overview, naming several firefighters who had lost their lives serving the community. He noted this declaration, which was long overdue, honored local firefighters and those from the Cities of Miami Beach, Hialeah, Coral Gables, Key Biscayne, and all firefighters. Chairwoman Heyman asked to be listed as co-sponsors of the foregoing resolution and concurred with Mr. Cruz that this recognition of firefighters was long overdue. Commissioner Bovo requested to also be listed as a co-sponsor. Hearing no further questions or comments, the Committee proceeded to vote.

TITLE
RESOLUTION DECLARING MONTH OF JUNE AS FIRE FIGHTER MEMORIAL MONTH AND AUTHORIZING A DISPLAY IN THE LOBBY OF THE STEPHEN P. CLARK CENTER

BODY
WHEREAS, fire fighters play an important role in protecting the lives, wellbeing and property of citizens of Miami-Dade County; and
WHEREAS, fire fighters play this role at a great risk to their health and safety and a number of them have lost their lives in the line of duty; and
WHEREAS, currently there are studies being conducted examining whether or not fire fighters are at an increased risk of developing certain occupational diseases by the nature of their work; and
WHEREAS, this Board wishes to honor and show its support for the work that fire fighters perform by declaring the month of June as Fire Fighter Memorial Month,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FLORIDA that the month of June, beginning with June 2014 and continuing each year thereafter, is hereby declared as Fire Fighter Memorial Month. The County Mayor is hereby directed to work with the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Department and the Metro-Dade Fire Fighters IAFF Local 1403 to install a temporary display in the lobby of the Stephen P. Clark Center during the month of June to commemorate fire fighters in Miami-Dade County who have died in the line of duty.
